Roll on race between the all wheel drive Ferrari FF and the rear wheel drive BMW F10 M5

There was a time where this Ferrari would have been unthinkable. An all wheel drive four seat hatchback Ferrari? How high are you? Well, apparently just as high as whatever engineer at Ferrari put the idea forward as the reality of the situation is that the Ferrari FF is a four seat all wheel drive hatchback Ferrari.

It is kind of cool in its own way as it is so different from anything else in the Ferrari lineup. It also is pretty damn fast with an Enzo inspired 6.3 liter naturally aspirated 651 horsepower V12 under the hood.

The BMW F10 M5 also has room for passengers but features four doors and seats five. That extra seat comes with an extra $200,000 in your pocket as well. The M5 is your prototypical German luxury sports sedan. It has less horsepower on paper than the Ferrari at a rated 560 (very underrated 560) and similar paper torque figures.

In reality, the F10 M5 likely has around the same horsepower as the FF although the FF is not exactly a car that owners put on the dyno all the time. The M5 also clearly has more torque at the wheels which is where it counts.

It is a very good race between the two dual clutch cars. However, as speeds rise the all wheel drive of the Ferrari becomes a penalty despite being an efficient system. The FF's weight also is not helping as independent figures have it at a similar weight to the M5 in the 4200 pound range.

The M5 pulls until it hits the limiter. Keep in mind the FF is doing itself no favors with three people in the car to the M5's two.

The M5 technically wins but considering the source of the video that is no surprise. It also would not surprise us if the M5 happened to have some mods that were not mentioned. Either way, the cars are two very fun ways to go fast with some friends. In the FF's case, even in the snow.

It's got black exhaust tips, but sounds pretty stock...also looks a little low, thinking comp package + aftermarket springs. Would very easily be able to pull like that on an FF.

I don't know about easy. I'd like to see the FF without the passengers.

    Interesting race regardless.

Only mod for the M5 supposedly is an aftermarket exhaust system.
Maybe it has a journalist edition DME, but who knows for sure?
    It is quick though.

Guy I share the building with has an FF. Its a fast car, and is probably one of my favorite Ferrari's out there. I LOVE the interior.

ITS A BIG CAR- don't fool yourself!

I think its WAY too quiet though. Needs some Tubi exhaust or something.
The 4wd turns off around 90mph IIRC.
put one person in each car and make sure they both are stock, and I bet the game would change. ESPECIALLY from a dig. that FF plain MOVES off the line.

What you should ask him for is his job.

Formula 1 is boring don't you know?

    Heh.

There are arguments on all sides but as Formula 1 proved a long time ago driver skill is what matters and not the amount of pedals.

Actually F1 cars do have manual clutches, 2 pedals to be precise, but they are operated with pedals behind the steering wheel....
They are only operated during the starting launch procedure.

Fully understand but that's why I specifically mentioned that 3rd pedal.

I used to be a fan of saying real race cars have 3 pedals. But times change. As they did in F1.
